Introduction

April 20: Since I first heard Massive Attack in 1998,

I’ve been searching for art that bridges the divide between the popular and the anti-popular.

In this conservative land of Japan,

where people carefully choose their words and end their days with gossip,

those who dare to create have faced defeat time and time again.

Where is the ideology in K-POP or J-POP?
Art that relies on the masses cannot lead to true freedom for the people.

I no longer want to simply admire art—I want to create it.
My works still feel like a quiet heartbeat, pulsing softly like a tear.

In the time I have left, I vow to enjoy the process of creating—

whether it seems strange to some or ordinary to others.
